Check this dude out. Freddie Gibbs, just a plain-old kid born into a place scoured and soured by economic decline; that place is Gary, Indiana. People call New Jersey the armpit of America? Well, if they were to anthropomorphize Gary, it'd be the a******. Located on the shores of the southern-most tip of Lake Michigan, its best known for being the stanky town right after you get through the hellish traffic of Chi-town. Driving past in the comfort of your plush SUV, you turn on recirculate mode, as the stench of the dysfunctional mills and factories tries to flood your breathing space. From the comfort of the raised highway, you stare out unto the shanty-shacks that line the sparsely wooded confines of the 'town', and either cuss the wreak or thank God you don't have to stop for gas.
Enter Freddie Gibbs, rap prodigy. He grew up in Gary, and has is making his way out verse by verse. Check out this snippet-al documentary put out by YoursTru.ly:
